Recognition Awards

The Hellenic Heritage Foundation launched the HHF Recognition Awards with the goal of recognizing and celebrating distinguished Canadians of Hellenic descent or Philhellenes who have made an outstanding contribution to our community.

Since its inception, we have proudly honoured Supreme Court Justice Andromache Karakatsanis; renowned physician-scientist, the late Dr. Dimitrios Oreopoulos; philanthropist and Blackberry founder, Mike Lazaridis; internationally acclaimed composer Christos Hatzis; legendary opera singer, Teresa Stratas; philanthropist, inventor and entrepreneur, Dr. Savvas Chamberlain; philanthropist and CEO of Achieva Health, Toula Reppas; one of the world’s leading young particle physicists, Dr. Asimina Arvanitaki; scientist, inspiring educator and humanitarian, Dr. Helen Dimaras; visionary entrepreneur and philanthropist, Nikolaos (Nick) Mirkopoulos;  pediatric allergist, clinical immunologist and community leader, Dr. Fotini Kavadas; philanthropist and community leader, John Dagonas; aerospace industry leader, Dr. John Maris; award winning journalist, Vassy Kapelos, family physician and community youth leader, Dr. Frank Karantonis; engineering industry leader Catherine Karakatsanis; film industry leader and philanthropist, Steve Mirkopoulos; orthodontist and community youth leader, Dr. Christos Papadopoulos; artificial intelligence/computer science pioneer and community leader; Dr. John Mylopoulos; and philanthropist and community leader, John Fanaras; Paralympian Marissa Papaconstantinou; clinical physiologist and cardiologist Dr. John Floras; and former Ambassador and Philhellene Robert Peck.

In celebration of the HHF’s 20th Anniversary in 2016, the Awards were expanded to shine a wider spotlight on distinguished Canadians of Greek descent or Philhellenes who have made an outstanding contribution to Canadian society and to the Greek-Canadian community at large: the HHF Lifetime Achievement Award; Outstanding Achievement under 40 years of Age; and Excellence in Philanthropy and Community Involvement. Confidential nominations can be submitted online and will assist the HHF in identifying and celebrating the achievements in our Hellenic-Canadian community.
