The Hellenic Heritage Foundation has supported a number of important heritage and cultural initiatives since its inception.
Through our philanthropic efforts we seek to enrich the unique social and cultural fabric of Canada by pursuing and investing in projects which allow for Hellenic culture and heritage to be shared with the broader Canadian community.
Representing one of our larger investments, the Hellenic Heritage Foundation Greek Canadian Archives (HHF GCA) aims to collect, preserve, and create resources relating to the history of Greek Canada.
The Archives initiative grew out of the Greek Canadian History Project (GCHP)—a joint project launched by Athanasios (Sakis) Gekas and Christopher Grafos in 2012. Generous donations from the Hellenic Heritage Foundation and York University in 2021 helped establish a permanent archive housed in the Clara Thomas Archives and Special Collections section of York University Libraries.
The GCHP is designed to identify, acquire, digitize, preserve, and provide access to materials that reflect the experiences of Canada’s Greek immigrants and their descendants. HHF has also funded the endowment of a Hellenic Studies Program at the University of Toronto.
