‘Keep Our Language Alive’
TORONTO (June 8th, 2017) The Hellenic Heritage Foundation (HHF) is a charitable organization dedicated to the preservation and promotion of Hellenic education, culture and heritage in Canada.
On Friday, June 2nd, the HHF celebrated its 21st Anniversary Gala at the Universal EventSpace in Vaughan to raise funds in support of its newest major project to improve and enhance Greek School Language Education available at the primary level throughout Ontario.
The Foundation has committed $50,000 towards this goal by funding the purchase of new textbooks for students attending Greek Language programs within the TDSB and various Community Greek Language classes. The HHF continues to offer at no fee, ‘Teacher Training Certificate Program’ which has been developed in collaboration with the Faculty of Education at York University.
With over 600 + in attendance, the evening was extremely successful. Acting as Masters of Ceremonies were HHF Director – Effie Triantafilopoulos, and former Ambassador of Canada to Greece – Mr. Robert William Peck.
Mr. John Dagonas, was recognized with a special tribute for his outstanding leadership as President of the Hellenic Heritage Foundation, over the last two years. The Guest Speaker for the evening was Undergraduate student, Ms. Taiyan Liu, who inspired everyone in attendance with her speech which was presented in both English and Greek Taiyan, whose parents are of Greek and Chinese descent, took part in the Greek Language course offered by the HHF through the University.
