The Hellenic Heritage Foundation (HHF) is pleased to share that it will be sponsoring up to five students across Canada to take part in a once in a lifetime opportunity to explore their Hellenic heritage and reconnect with their culture through an amazing opportunity called “Heritage Greece”, taking place this summer from June 6th to June 23rd, 2019.
The Heritage Greece Program (HG) is an unforgettable two-week cultural and educational study abroad trip designed for exceptional Greek North American College and University students who share their experience with a peer group of accomplished students from the American College of Greece (ACG) which is located on a beautiful 65-acre campus in the suburb of Agia Paraskevi in Athens, Greece.
The goal of the Program is to reconnect the participants with their heritage, roots, language, history, and traditions. Students learn language skills within the context of modern Greece and travel to important archaeological locations and museums. The Heritage Greece Program was originally developed by the National Hellenic Society (NHS) as part of its mission to celebrate and preserve Greek heritage in the United States. The Program is hosted by American College of Greece (ACG).
For the first time ever, Greek-Canadian students will be eligible to take part and will be sponsored by the Hellenic Heritage Foundation. Student participants will meet in Washington, DC for orientation on June 6, 2019, and will depart for Greece as a group alongside an ACG staff member on June 7, 2019. Participants bear $1,000 of the airfare expense to Greece, and are responsible for transportation to and from Washington, DC. All other related costs including tuition, accommodations, local transportation and borne by the HHF. Upon conclusion of the course, participants will depart from Greece to Washington, DC on Sunday June 23, 2019.
Once back home, participants remain engaged as part of the Heritage Greece Alumni Network, where they will continue to have access to further career advancing opportunities and mentorship as Heritage Greece Alumni.
To be eligible, students will need to:
- Be currently enrolled in an Undergraduate or Graduate post-secondary program
- Be Canadians of Greek descent
- Be 18-26 years of age
- Have GPA of 3.0 or higher (B average or higher in Canada)
