York University students had an opportunity to present their recent and ongoing research on Greece as part of a student conference held on on March 24th.
The student conference titled " Research on Greece" was the first of its kind and showcased the research on Greek history and society that York students do as part of their Undergraduate and Graduate studies. The event was open to the academic community, media and general public and was hosted by the Hellenic Heritage Foundation Chair of Modern Greek History, the Department of History and the Department of Anthropology at York University.
Among the student presenters were: the first HHF International Graduate Fellowship Recipient, Spyros Papageorgakis; two former HHF Graduate & Undergraduate Fellowship Recipients - Elaina Lampropoulos and Peter Milonas; and two Undergraduate students from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki studying at York through the new created Stavros Niarchos Foundation exchange scholarships - Sotiria Kalpachtsi and Foteini Pliaki.
"The conference in a way, is the culmination of the work we have been doing the last few years. We are building the foundations for productive and innovative work on Modern Greece and Greek Canadian history by our students", says HHF Chair of Modern History, Professor Sakis Gekas.
